Description

If you teach promote social skills with your students with autism or other developmental disabilities, this resource is made for you! This is a one page social narrative geared toward teaching rules and expectations during Gym aka Physical Education class.

This is a one page story with approximately 10 lines of text, with accompanying pictures. Visuals are great ways to teach skills to early learners.

This story is written from the student’s perspective explaining how:

✎ There are rules in Gym for sharing, taking turns, and being a good sport.

✎ Students must follow the rules to continue playing the games.
✎ Examples of coping strategies for if learners get upset (deep breath, walk, ask for a drink of water, etc).

*Two versions are included: One refers to “Gym” and one refers to “P.E.”*

Repeating these expectations to your learner can help teach rules and expectations for Gym class. Remember that behavior change does not happen overnight. Practice, practice, practice this skill using modeling and positive reinforcement!
